Our Story.
Saturday the fifth of March 1983 – Bob Hawke was voted into office and Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean finally hit number one on the Billboard hot 100. Two historically significant moments which sat second and third on the podium behind George Petridis, 25 candles and the birth of Petridis Architects. A drawing board was built, tracing paper was stacked and three rOtring pens (.25, .35 and .5) were lined up before he called it a day, it was the weekend after all.
The practice’s early work was marked by the design of large houses for young couples, laying the foundation for the development of the business. Elderly people’s hostels, childcare centres, churches, temples of worship – both communities and drawings were rich with diversity. Taking the elevator to the next stop, the next step in the journey was to venture into the world of medium and high density residential developments. Categorised by townhouses and apartments, this is what the practice has become known for over the past three decades.
Petridis Architects finds solutions that best suit builders, developers and end users. Each development site is unique, possessing its own natural attributes which influence the design of a project. Compounded with this are council requirements and the need for a project to respond to the character of its neighbourhood. This combination is never the same and each development quickly establishes its own story, one that is refined until a desirable outcome is achieved for all parties.
